Digital Caretakers: Nurturing the Cyber Feminist Sphere in the post internet era
“Digital Caretakers” delves into the nurturing aspects within online spaces while
highlighting the role of cyber feminists.
Cyber feminism is by nature a nurturing and supportive movement that involves the concepts of care, solidarity, and empowerment in the digital world.
This in situ project aims to explore the intersection of cyber feminism and the concept of care in the digital realm of the post internet era. The artwork aims to celebrate the feminine nature of every human and invite the viewer to an immersive to the eye experience in fostering inclusivity, empathy, and support.
The piece is a large Digital Art composition with integrated digital
paintings and designs which are of symbolic matter; incorporated in a
larger art installation in the form of a long curtain that functions as a canvas.
Key elements: a prolonged “curtain” that will span throughout the hotel corridor hanging from the top and reaching the floor.
The prolonged fabric that will formulate somewhat a theatrical curtain
will showcase the Digital Art Piece Composition.
The medium of fabric will be used as a canvas for digital prints (or/and projections) that showcase the celebration of cyber feminism and of care through various visual
representations or symbolic imagery.
Its placement in the long hotel corridor could allow viewers to walk alongside and interact with the artwork, creating an immersive experience. Additionally, elements like embedded QR codes along the composition that link to online
resources, interviews, or additional information about cyber feminism and
care will be
integrated in the design.
This could offer viewers a deeper understanding of the themes explored in this project
-if they wish to further interact with it.
Within the compilation-composition the artwork created for this project will be a “mosaic” of non repetative, digital paintings and designs exploring the themes of care, solidarity, and empowerment in the digital world.
More specifically, the prototypes I am working on are digital paintings of
feminine figures (female looking bodies).
They are sculptural, three dimensional figures with voluminous breasts and a prolonged
belly suggesting baring a new being and implying fertility. Fertility does
not necessary signify pregnancy, but spiritual and intellectual fertility and advancement of the mind and of ones’ being through evolution, allowed nowadays via our contact and our access to
information and new realms or modes of reality-realities.
These bodies are themselves a virtual safe space for marginalized voices, carrying ideas or baring the burden of carrying “the new”.
The figures also serve as an indirect ode to the iconic figures of the
Minoan women who bare tales of strength, grace and power, having their essence embroidered in vibrant, dominant parts.
The Minoan women appeared to have a form of power and sexual liberation that was not seen in other ancient societies, as evidenced by their disheveled hair, provocative “kiss curl” on their forehead, and revealing attire.
It is worth pointing out that despite the female body resemblances and r eferential characteristics, I have intentionally avoided specifying the sex of the figures, implying that “fertility of the mind”, even parental rolling is not a mere privilege or obligation of women, but a universal human condition that all should have the freedom to express or to experience.
While the figures will evoke emotions to the viewer and provoke thinking about social roles and role play and genderless emancipation, the artwork will also involve using binary code and technological symbols overlaid with the softer, organic shapes as a way to juxtapose the typically rigid and technical
nature of the digital world with elements that evoke a sense of warmth,
humanity, and care, allowing participants to step into a “virtual” world that represents a utopian cyber feminist society. Emphasize the importance of care, equality, and understanding within this digital landscape.
(2)Binary code, the fundamental language of computers, consists of 0s and
1s.
Sequences of these digits will be used to form shapes, patterns, or messages along the fabric curtain, visually transforming the technical language into a more artistic and accessible form.
By blending the technical elements with human, organic shapes, I am aiming to create a visual contrast that highlights both the technological advancements and the human-centric aspect of cyber feminism and care. This balance symbolizes the harmony between technology and empathy within the digital sphere.
Combining these symbolic elements thoughtfully along the length of the fabric
curtain can create a visually compelling narrative that embodies the essence of cyber feminism and care within the digital landscape.
Color and Texture
The pallet of colours and textures will aim to complement the latter juxtaposition.
Perhaps using a mix of vibrant digital hues for the technological elements
and softer, more muted tones for the organic shapes can enhance this contrast and create visual interest. This approach aims to bridge the gap between the digital and the human, showcasing the coexistence of technology and empathy, and
emphasizing how they can harmoniously merge within the context of cyber
feminism and care.
Fabric & Material:
Upcycled fabric will be used for the constraction of the fabric piece. The prints of the artwork on the fabric can either be monochrome screen-printed on the
fabric, using water based dyes -special for fabric, or digital prints
(full colour) using eco friendly digital printing technique.

On top, another idea of separate pieces of fabric and a more minimalistic approach to the installation.
On the right, a somewhat photorealistic
representation mock-up of the colour palette and a rough prototype of the composition
of elements on the fabric.
As it has been mentioned in the description, there will be a mix and a merge of organic more human like figurative references as well as references of the digital and more graphical, geometric signs
and characteristics.
Overall, there will be an antithesis of
curvy and more natural elements, with more strict linear and numerical depictions.
The QR codes and links will serve both as functional material the viewer could scan and find sitations relevant to cyberfeminism, the politics of care etc, but they will also serve as aesthetic elements that will “flow”
and “exist” within the composition._
